Environmental Triggers
Here is a great link to a fabulous powerpoint covering all of these topics.  http://www.klinghardt.org/KlinghardtAutism2008Derksen.pdf
When we are able to effectively minmize our exposure to environmental insults, our bodies can then begin healing.  But the burden has to be lifted off of our systems.   This section will discuss the different types of environmental issues and what you can do about it.

Parents!!!!

We now have printable letters that you can take to your child's therapist, doctor, teacher, etc. to help you explain the impact of chemicals, foods on your child's progress.  Please help us get the word out that our children need a clean, chemical free environment to work and thrive in.

EMR/EMF Exposures

www.THRiiiVE.com  Foundational Electrosmog TO DO List:

1.) Sleep at least 6 feet from Electrical Sources (if need clock - battery powered)
2.) Sleep at least 2 rooms from the BASE of your cordless phone (until you get rid of it)
3.) Sleep WITHOUT Baby MONITORS & METAL in Baby CRIBS (don't buy bed with metal)
4.) Turn off WI-FI/Wireless Internet Access at night (put on timer is ideal for this)
5.) Don't use CELL PHONE in car or against head ...especially with healing child
6.) Choose a time to turn OFF all ELECTRICITY to HOME at main breaker for a few hours and Monitor your and your families reaction/response - BASELINE Creation!

1.  EMR / EMF/ RF - Electromagnetic Radiation /Radio Frequency
A recent article from George Carlo and Tamara Mariea spells out the dangers of these frequencies on our autistic children.  Many physicians are reporting that the children are NOT RECOVERING until this is addressed.  There are strategies that families can take which could provide fabulous improvements in our health. The most profound results can be from creating a "sleeping sanctuary".   In essence, the body does most of it's healing at night.  So by removing any electronic and EMR exposure will allow the body to do that.

A "sleeping sanctuary" is simply turning off the electricity (at the circuit breaker) to all electriticy inside and surrounding the sleeping rooms at night.   An inspector can come and detect which fuses would be causing the most trouble and make recommendations.  Then a special canopy can be added to surround the bed with a fabric which prevents the outside EMR exposure from coming into the room.  Those can be found at:  www.lessemf.com .  Other information can be found at:  http://www.barcodesinc.com/articles/wireless-health.htm

According to the Safe Wireless Initiative the following recommendations must be implemented.
taken from the website www.safewireless.org which is no longer available.

Interventions to Maximize Health and Minimize EMR Risks
Recommendations from the Safe Wireless Initiative.

Increase your body’s resistance to EMR damage: Maximize your health

  1. Increase intake of natural oxidative stress fighters, such as antioxidants, melatonin, vitamins B, C, E and folic acid.
  2. Eat fresh, chemical-free, organic meats, fruits and vegetables.  Limit heavy metal buildup by knowing the source of your fish and other meats. Main sources of heavy metal ingestion are fish, poultry, meats and tap water.  Eat organic whole grains – test for allergic responses.
  3. Eliminate/minimize caffeine and alcoholic beverages, especially distilled liquor.
  4. Drink carbon filtered water.Primarily use glass or ceramic containers. Limit bottled water in plastic bottles.  Use recycled paper products for drinking and eating; avoid plastic or Styrofoam.
  5. Exercise and stretch daily to increase metabolism, not to train or work out. Breathe slowly and deeply. Surround yourself with nature as often as possible.  Do sweat and clean lymph.
  6. Minimize exposure to chemicals. Use chemical-free, natural products as they are often gentle on your body  and the environment. Avoid chemical   cleansers – vinegar, salt and baking soda work extremely well. Take cool or lukewarm showers/baths, instead of hot.
  7. Avoid/minimize exposure to bright and fluorescent light. Use subdued full-spectrum/natural incandescent bulbs or candle light as much as possible. Increase melatonin naturally by sleeping in the darkest room possible.
  8. Get up to a couple hours of sun exposure daily unless Electrohypersensitivity won’t allow it.  When exposed, wear light-colored clothing and hat, if needed.
  9. Take time daily for personal silence.
  10. Consult a clinician experienced in EMR sensitivity. Use of any intervention must be under qualified supervision, as many devices may increase long-term sensitivity if used improperly.

Minimize your EMR exposure:  Decrease hazardous risks.

  1. Minimize all exposure and usage of wireless communication: cell phones, cordless phones, and WiFi devices.
  2. Turn cell phone off when not in use and sleeping. Never keep it near your head or use it to play games, movies, etc.
  3. Keep cell phone at least 6-7 inches away from your body and others while on, talking, texting and downloading.
  4. Use air tube headsets or speaker mode when talking. Wireless and wired headsets still conduct radiation!
  5. Never keep cell phone in pocket, purse, back or on hip all day. The hip produces 80% of the body’s red blood cells and is especially vulnerable to EMR damage.-Close proximity may also affect fertility.
  6. Do not talk on cell or cordless phone when pregnant, with a baby/small child in arms, under age 16, or while in a vehicle (car, train, plane, subway) –Radiation gets trapped and is higher in these closed metal zones!
Minimize other EMR exposures to developing fetus via Ultrasounds and Electronic Fetal Monitoring unless absolutely necessary.
  7. Replace all cordless and WiFi items with wired, corded lines (phones, Internet, games, appliances, devices, etc.). The cordless phone base emits high levels of EMR – even when no one is making a call.
  8. Minimize/space out computer use, sit back from the screen; flat screens are preferable. Use wired Internet connections, not WiFi – especially for laptops. Keep laptops off of the body and away from metal surfaces.
  9. Keep a low-EMR sleep, home, and personal zone. Move alarm clock
radio at least 3 feet from head or use battery power; 6 feet is the recommended distance from all electronic devices during sleep. Avoid waterbeds, electric blankets and metal bed frames. Futons/wood frames are better than metal-coiled mattresses and box-springs.
  10. When using electric stoves, cook on back burners instead of front, as much as possible. Metals attract EMR: keep them away fromand off of the body.  Use glass, cast iron and uncoated pans to cook with.
  11. Measure EMR from wireless and wired devices with appropriate meters (see www.safewireless.org). To decrease exposures, install EMR filters and preventive technologies to electrical circuits, devices, appliances, etc.

The Food We Eat!

It is common knowledge that children with autism do better on a diet free of gluten and casein.  The Autism Research Institute reports that 66% of children on a gluten free / casein free diet get better.  Also, reported is that 69% of children on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet get better.   What does get better mean?  The report does not specify but we can reasonably assume that it means the children have showed some improvement when the diets are implemented.    So where do these diets fall short?

Recent presentations at the LIA Foundation 2009 Lyme-Autism Connection conference focused on Genetically Modified foods and the toxins in these foods having a severe impact on the health of this country.   More can be read on this in the books titled "Seeds of Deception" and "Genetic Roulette" by Jeffrey Smith.   However for the purposes of this website, you should know that GMO's or Genetically Modified Organisms should be avoided at all costs.

The bottom line is that we need to get the processed foods and sugars (even the GFCF ones) out of our diet and eat clean, organic, healthy foods.

The LIA Foundation recently issued a position paper on GMO foods, please read and forward on to family, friends and physicians so they may know the dangerous impact of these foods on our children.  http://www.lymeinducedautism.com/gmopositionpaper.html

At our recent 2009 conference, Jeffrey Smith educated on the detrimental impact of eating foods that are from genetically modified sources.  These are called GMO's (genetically modified organisms).  Please remove these from your entire families diet immediately and ensure that healthy, pure, organic foods are used instead.  Download your free shopping guide provided by the Institute for Responsible Technology.  http://www.seedsofdeception.com/DocumentFiles/144.pdf
Listen to Robert Slovack and Dr. Joe Mercola discuss disinfecant byproducts in our water.  Disinfectant byproducts are formed when chlorine is used as a disinfectant in our water supply.  Once these disinfectant byproducts are formed, they have a dangerous health impact to our society.  Read more about the types of byproducts and what the dangers are to our health on this site:  http://www.lenntech.com/water-disinfection/disinfection-byproducts-types.htm .  Please note that we are only recommending that you read this page and don't endorse any water system sold on this site.

Chemicals, Toxins and Pesticides...OH MY!
Did you know that a study done in Central California showed an increase in the rate in autism in an area which pesticides are sprayed from the sky?

Did you know that if a child with autism walks into a grocery store where you can smell the cleaning products like bleach, household cleaners, etc. that he can REGRESS right in front of your eyes?   To onlookers it may look like bad behavior.  But to the child, it feels like their head is about to explode!

The environment we are in is so important and can be a huge detriment to healing.   Doris Rapp, MD presented 27 tips at our 2007 Lyme-Autism Conference which you must consider implementing in your home.   To read more on Doris Rapp please go to:  www.drrapp.com
